THE BOX OFFICE HITS ‘THE TOWN’

The Town, the cops and robbers movie starring Ben Affleck, was #1 at the box office this weekend taking in $23.8 million.  The film has received very positive reviews.  Affleck, who starred in and directed the movie, should be happy with these numbers.  This is the second film Affleck has directed.  The first film he directed, Gone Baby Gone, starring his brother Casey Affleck, similarly received positive reviews.

The comedy Easy A starring Emma Stone and Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley, came in at #2 earning $18.2 million.  The film only cost $8 million to make.  Everybody associated with making this film has earned an ’A.’  It is very seldom that a movie earns more than double what it cost to make in its first weekend at the box office.

The horror movie, Devil, came in at #3 earning just over $12.5 million.  This is not bad considering very little publicity was done to promote the movie.  The commercials for the movie were widespread, which clearly helped sell this film to the public.

Resident Evil: After Life, which was the #1 movie last weekend, fell to 4th place earning $10.1 million.  Will this drop in the numbers prevent filmmakers from doing another Resident Evil sequel? Stay tuned.

The animated movie Alpha and Omega took 5th place grossing $9.2 million. Here is another example of a film which did relatively no publicity and marketing, resulting in a very weak opening weekend.
