IS GEORGE CLOONEY READY TO BECOME AN U.N.C.L.E.?

The Playlist is reporting that Clooney is rumored to be re-teaming with his buddy, Director Steven Soderbergh, to star in the big screen version of the 1960s series “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”

Reportedly the movie will take place, like the TV show, in the ’60s. “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” was a hit from 1964 to 1968 on NBC. The show starred Robert Vaughn and David McCallum (Currently stars on NCIS) The cold war spy thriller followed a super-secret international law-enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E (United Network Command for Law and Enforcement).

Production could start as early as next year.

So many television shows have been turned into movies with very little success. Shows like The Fugitive and Mission Impossible, and the Addams Family are the exception rather than the rule. Will “The Man from U.N.C.L.E” find success if Clooney stars in the lead role?  Let us know what you think!

He and Brad Pitt would be a nice combo. Loved the show in the 60′s

much as I like Clooney, my only answer is a resounding NO! they shouldn’t try for “star power” for this, the characters are too well-known. best be IMO is to cast little known/unknown actors as Napoleon and Illya. and BTW, David McCallum plays Dr DONALD “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS, not David Mallard. but I am available for any female roles… :D

Open channel ‘D’ ! “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” and “Laugh In” were my favorite shows from the 60′s. I do look forward to the movie.

Clooney is too old to play Napoleon Solo. Yeah, in 1999 or 2000 he would have been a good choice, but that was a decade ago and he is a decade past the part of a spy organization’s top enforcement agent.

I think it would be great if any new movie was set in the 1960s Cold-War era. Without that, the whole concept of an American and a Russian agent working side-by-side to promote world order loses something. But not Clooney as Solo please. We need a younger actor.

I’m sorry Clooney missed out on the opportunity to play Napoleon Solo a decade ago, but even he should realize he has now aged out of the role.
