For the 18th consecutive year, Concept Marketing Development of Santa Barbara, California, will assist the Academy in coordinating the program.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2010 will be presented on Sunday, February 27, 2010, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network.  The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

DAVID DUCHOVNY FEELS LUCKY FINDING SUCCESS ON TELEVISION

David Duchovny has been working in Hollywood making movies and television shows for twenty-three years. While finding moderate success in films, television has been great to Duchovny. He has starred in three very successful shows, Red Shoe Diaries, the iconic and one of the best sci-fi shows of all time, the X-Files, and he currently stars in and produces the hit Showtime series, Californication, which airs tonight 9/8 central on Showtime.

In Hollywood, just having one successful television show in one’s career is a miracle in itself; so having three is like winning the lotto. We spoke to Duchovny, who told us that he feels lucky finding so much success on television.  (Click on the audio player to hear David Duchovny)

THE RITE WINS THE WEEKEND BOX OFFICE

From a money making standpoint, it was a very quiet weekend at the box office. The horror movie, The Rite, was #1 this weekend earning $15.0 million. This film, which is based on the novel, The Rite:The Making of a Modern Exorcist, stars Academy Award winner, Sir Anthony Hopkins.  Despite negative reviews, the film still performed fairly well, continuing the trend of horror film success at the box office.

Last weeks #1 movie, the romantic comedy No Strings Attached, came in at #2 grossing $13.7 million. The film cost $25 million to make, and so far it has grossed over $39 million domestically already making back the cost of production.  The success of No Strings Attached must be making its star, Natalie Portman, who  also produced the film, extremely happy.

The action movie, The Mechanic, starring Jason Statham, landed at #3 this weekend earning a very disappointing $11.5 million. This film is a remake of the 1972 film of the same name, which starred iconic tough guy actor Charles Bronson. Most in Hollywood expected the film to earn more than it did this  weekend.

Rounding out the top five movies were Seth Rogen’s action movie, The Green Hornet at #4 earning $11.5 million, and at #5 was The Kings Speech, pulling in $11.1 million.

HENRY CAVILL NAMED TO PLAY SUPERMAN IN NEW SUPERMAN MOVIE

This morning, it was announced that British actor Henry Cavill, mainly known to audiences for his role in the Showtime series, The Tudors, has officially been named to play Superman in the reboot of the franchise Superman:Man of Steel. The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, and is slated to be released in December 2012.

Superman fans everywhere have their own ideas about who should be cast for this role. Here is a situation where you just can’t please everybody, so it was probably a smart move to cast an actor who isn’t well known. Many other actors were initially being considered to play the title role, including Jon Hamm (Mad Men), and Brandon Routh, who played Superman in Superman Returns.

Do you think Cavill will make a good Superman, or is there someone else you would have liked to see cast in this role?  Let us know what you think!
