CLAIRE DANES REFLECTS ABOUT THE DEMISE OF MY SO-CALLED LIFE
Over the past few years, Claire Danes has found major success in television. Last year, Danes received some of the best reviews of her career starring in the HBO movie Temple Grandin. She currently stars in the Showtime CIA drama, Homeland, which has won over audiences and critics alike. Before her recent television success, Danes starred on the teenage television drama My So-Called Life from 1994 to 1995, where she played Angela Chase, a sophomore high school student trying to find herself. The show dealt with issues which until then, were rarely shown on television. At that time, Danes was 14 years old and won a Golden Globe award and an Emmy nomination for her role on the show. Despite all the accolades the show received, it was canceled after one season, and rumors had it that producers blamed Danes for not wanting to return for the second season. To this day, she is asked about why the show did not continue. Danes states that the show was troubled from the start, and that she is not responsible for its demise. A fourteen year old girl who is the star of the show, can in fact be the cause of demise if she chooses not to return… It would be kind of hard to do it without her don’t you think?
She got a big ego and wanted to only do film (kind of funny where her career ended up isn’t it?) and starred in Romeo+Juliet, only to turn down the role of Rose in Titanic later that year. I bet that she lives with those mistakes everyday.
