Jimmy Iovine was highly critical of Colton Dixon’s performances Wednesday night on “American Idol.”
So was the “Idol” mentor surprised when America’s vote eliminated Dixon from the competition?
After tonight’s results show, Fox All Access producer Jeff Axelrod spoke to Iovine to find out what he thought of the voting, and his candid assessment of whether this year’s crop of “Idol” contestants has any superstars in the making.
The Top 6 will perform Queen songs with the band’s Brian May and Roger Taylor on the “American Idol” performance show, next Wednesday night at 8/7c on Fox.
Time ran out for Colton Dixon on “American Idol” tonight. The 20-year-old’s performances of “Bad Romance” and “September” weren’t well-received by the judges or mentor Jimmy Iovine on Wednesday night, and the viewers agreed, sending him back home to Tennessee.
Should Dixon, whose performances up until last night generally got a lot of praise, have been punished for his one bad night?
Fox All Access producer Jeff Axelrod went backstage at “Idol” and caught up with judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler after the show to talk with them about Dixon’s elimination, and to find out if they think the audience is doing a good job of judging the contestants on their talent.
Next week, the Top 6 contestants — Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, Phillips Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, and Elise Testone — get to sing the songs of Queen, with the band’s Brian May and Roger Taylor on hand as special guests.
The two-hour performance show airs Wednesday night at 8/7c, with the results being announced Thursday night at 8/7c on Fox.
Snow White and the Huntsman is one of this summer’s most anticipated movies. The film offers different kind of take on the classic fairy tale, and stars Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth. Recently Tarsem offered his take on the Snow White story with Mirror Mirror, and judging from the trailer Snow White and the Huntsman has a grittier, darker tone than Tarsem’s feature. Rupert Sanders who directed Snow White and the Huntsman is hoping his version of Snow White will resonate with audiences.
Snow White and the Huntsman opens in theatres June 1.

When news broke of Dick Clark’s death yesterday, the Internet was abuzz with tributes — many including YouTube videos featuring some of Clark’s finest, funniest, or most memorable moments.
This one, however, might be one that Randy Jackson would like to forget. First of all, he’s playing bass for… Michael Bolton??? (And not the cool Michael Bolton from “Office Space.”) Second of all, look at that hair! It’s as if he had it styled to look like a Green Bay Packers “cheesehead” hat, which isn’t a good look on anybody.
And, sadly, it also explains why Randy said he actually liked Sanjaya’s “fauxhawk” during Season 6 of “Idol.”
Check out Randy Jackson’s current hair style — or lack thereof — tonight on the “American Idol” elimination show at 8/7c on Fox.
Dick Clark’s passing was on the minds of many at Idol this week. While most of the contestants were a decade or two too young to remember American Bandstand, they clearly had an appreciation for Clark’s contribution to the music world - especially his ability to use TV to further inspire people’s love of music. We caught up with all of the contestants backstage after the show and asked them to tell us about the show, movie, or artist they remember inspiring them early in their lives. The variety of answers may surprise you. Check it out!
So the question now? Which of the American Idol contestants is inspiring you? Who do you hope makes it another week? Answers will be revealed tomorrow, so tune in Thursday at 8/7c on FOX to find out!
