‘E.T.’: 30 YEARS LATER
The movie industry has changed a lot over the years. These days, even the biggest movies will have a few good weeks, then fade away as the next big thing hits theaters. In fact, it’s been over a decade since any movie spent 10 consecutive weeks in the Top 5 at the box office. One film that stands out from the rest is the 1982 film, “E.T.” The accomplishments of E.T. were spectacular – it spent 27 weeks in a row in the Top 5, 16 of those at Number 1. And even though it was released at a time when movie tickets cost less than 3 bucks a piece, it’s still number one on the all-time list of top-grossing movies. We could quote its accomplishments all day, but perhaps the biggest is that it’s Steven Spielberg’s favorite film. (Click on the audio player to hear Steven Spielberg)

Drew Barrymore was just a little girl, only 6 years old, when she made E.T., and she remembers how working with Spielberg changed her life. (Click on the audio player to hear Drew Barrymore)

Today E.T. celebrates its 30th anniversary. So go ahead hop on your bike, turn on your heartlight, and phone home.

It’s been 35 years since the first installment of “STAR WARS” ran in the summer of 1977, and for me, it was a life-changing event. For thousands of other creative people as well. Here is my YouTube 35th Anniversary Tribute to George Lucas and John Williams:
