An early pick to win it all when she made the “American Idol” finals, Sanchez lost out to Phillip Phillips after the nation’s 132 million votes were counted.
After the show, the 16-year-old from San Diego spoke with Fox All Access executive producer Robin Whitaker about tonight’s finale, her performance with Jennifer Holliday, her “Idol” journey, and how she can’t wait to get back home to play video games!
America has spoken, and its choice is Phillip Phillips.
The 21-year-old Georgian defeated Jessica Sanchez to become the 11th “American Idol” winner tonight, winning the majority of the 132 million votes cast after Tuesday night’s performances.
Right after his win, Fox All Access executive producer Robin Whitaker caught up with Phillips backstage at the Nokia Theater to find out how he was doing and what he was thinking after his big victory.
Tonight’s American Idol season finale will feature either Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips as this year’s Idol winner. Although Sanchez’s powerhouse voice makes her an absolute shoo-in for the crown, Phillips’ laid back and amiable demeanor and good looks make him a dark horse favorite to win it all as well.
Carrie Underwood, winner of Idol’s fourth season, is now one of country’s biggest stars. But every great artists starts somewhere, and Underwood vividly recalls her experience during the Idol finale (she won over Bo Bice). (Click on the audio player to hear Carrie Underwood)

Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez, this season’s American Idol finalists, are currently preparing for tonight’s live finale from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Ca. While Phillips’ laid back demeanor and innovative song interpretations are reminiscent of a younger version of Dave Matthews, Sanchez’s powerhouse voice should give her a solid career as a pop/R&B star. American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez believes this year’s top two are among the more diverse contestants they had in the competition this year, and she believes song choice will be an integral ingredient in their success.
Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips perform on Tonight 8/7 and the winner will be crowned Wednesday night 8/7 central on FOX.
Is Phillip Phillips nervous about performing on the “American Idol” finale stage at the Nokia Theatre tomorrow night? Fox All Access host Chris Leary caught up with Phillips this afternoon and spoke to him about how he’s mentally preparing himself for what will certainly be the most pressure-packed performance of his life.
Phillips also shared his thoughts about why he believes he made it into the finale against Jessica Sanchez, and what he’ll be thinking right before he takes the stage.
Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez face off tomorrow night during the first part of “American Idol’s” season finale at 8/7 central on Fox.
FOX All Access radio show host Chris Leary spoke exclusively to American Idol finalist, Jessica Sanchez, as she prepares for one of the biggest nights of her life, performing along with fellow finalist Phillip Phillips, to see who will become the next American Idol.
Sanchez seems humbled, as she told us that getting to the finals is a win-win no matter what happens. Sanchez went on to tell us how she is preparing, and still is surprised that she made it to the finals considering she thought she was going to be eliminated last Thursday night.
Catch Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips as they perform tomorrow night in the American Idol Finale 8/7 central on FOX.
It was a homecoming last night, as Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert made an appearance on “American Idol” once again.
It was a perfect time for Lambert to return to the stage that first made him a star, since his “Trespassing” album was just released on Tuesday.
He performed his new single, “Never Close Our Eyes,” a song that finds him working with two of pop’s reigning hitmakers — it was co-written and produced by Bruno Mars and Dr. Luke!
After the show, Fox All Access producer Jeff Axelrod briefly caught up with Lambert backstage to talk about the new album’s creative process, and to get his thoughts on Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips, this year’s “Idol” finalists.
With three contestants left in the competition and only two slots open in the “American Idol” finale next week, somebody had to go home tonight.
And unfortunately for Joshua Ledet, he was the one who drew the proverbial short straw, winding up with fewer votes than either Jessica Sanchez or Phillip Phillips. So close, yet so far away.
Still, though it was certainly an emotional night for Ledet, he was in good spirits and optimistic about his future when he spoke backstage with Fox All Access producer Jeff Axelrod.
While Phillip and Jessica will try to earn your votes with their performances next Tuesday night during the first part of the “American Idol” finale, Joshua will be back on the “Idol” stage next Wednesday for part two of the finale, when the new “American Idol” will be announced. The two-part finale airs Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 8/7c on Fox.
One of the two will be your next “American Idol” winner.
With just five days left until they perform in the big “Idol” finale, things are going to get really hectic for the two of them, really fast.
But before that happens, Jessica and Phillip took some time to sit down with Fox All Access producer Jeff Axelrod in the “Idol” dressing room, reflecting on their journeys so far and looking ahead to what will undoubtedly be the most exciting night of their young lives.
And although we’re sure they’ll both be giving it their all next Tuesday night, one thing is certain: This is a very friendly rivalry.
Watch Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips compete for the “American Idol” title — they’ll be performing Tuesday night at 8/7c, and the winner will be announced during the star-studded season finale, Wednesday night on Fox.
