Emily and Zooey Deschanel are very close these days. And not just as sisters — they’re both working on shows that are based on the 20th Century Fox lot in Los Angeles, just a few hundred feet away from each other. Emily, of course, has been starring on “Bones” for seven years, while Zooey has just finished up her first season of “New Girl.” Zooey made an appearance on “Bones” a few years ago, guest-starring as the cousin of Emily’s character. So now that Zooey’s got a show of her own, would Emily be interested in returning the favor? She told us they’ve talked about it.
Watch Emily Deschanel on a new episode of “Bones,” Monday night at 8/7c, and Zooey Deschanel on the season final of “New Girl,” Tuesday night at 9/8c, both on Fox.
Last Monday night, Fox’s hit “Bones” added another 300 bones to its cast: Booth and Brennan’s new baby! (Yes, as Brennan could tell you, although an adult human has 206 bones, babies are born with 300, some of which fuse together as the child grows.) Ever since they found out that Booth and Brennan were expecting, the show’s fans have been anxiously anticipating the blessed event, and wondering how the child will change the dynamic between the characters. Emily Deschanel thinks the baby is a welcome addition to the show. She finds it refreshing that, after seven and a half seasons, Brennan now faces a challenge she’s never dealt with before — and, as a new mother herself, she knows a lot of the show’s fans will be able to relate to what it’s like to be a new parent.
Happily for Emily Deschanel, but unhappily for fans, the star’s maternity leave left a nearly three-month gap between new episodes. However, the show’s now coming back in a big way.
Not only is the show moving to Mondays (starting tonight), but it will be airing brand-new episodes for seven weeks in a row on its new night.
When we spoke to “Bones” executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan, they told us that fans weren’t the only ones frustrated by the show’s extended absence — it was driving them crazy, too! (Click on the media player to hear Hart Hanson & Stephen Nathan.)

As you’ve no doubt seen or heard, Brennan gives birth to her and Booth’s daughter in tonight’s episode. How much will this change their relationship? Will Booth and Brennan, with their diametrically opposed personalities, continue to clash? Or will they have to learn to work together in harmony for the baby? Watch tonight as “Bones” returns for the first of seven consecutive new episodes, at 8/7c on Fox.
Not only does the show return from an extended break on Monday night, but it was announced yesterday that “Bones” has been picked up for an eighth season on Fox.
Of course, the die-hard fans would like the show to last forever — and in reruns, it very well may. But with each passing year, every series faces the question of whether this season will be its last, and “Bones” is no different.
So Fox All Access spoke with executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan to find out how long they realistically think the show could go on, and whether they’ve got a plan in place for ending the series when the time comes. (Click on the audio player to hear Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan.)

“Bones” returns to Fox on its new night, Monday at 8/7c.
Usually, birth announcements go out after a baby’s born, but in this case, we can tell you that Booth and Brennan’s baby girl will definitely be born on Monday night., as “Bones” moves to a new night and time. The newest addition to the Jeffersonian crew’s extended family — no doubt inspired by Emily Deschanel’s real-life pregnancy — will certainly shake things up a bit, as her parents try to balance raising a new baby with their crime-solving activities. When we spoke to David Boreanaz, he told us the baby will definitely affect the dynamic between the “Bones” characters in new and interesting ways.
Before becoming “flesh and (ahem) bone” in the form of Emily Deschanel on our television screens, Dr. Temperance Brennan lived in our imaginations and on the printed page, thanks to the series of novels written by author and forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs.
In fact, by the time “Bones” premiered on Fox in September 2005, eight of Brennan’s adventures had been published. Television producer Hart Hanson was a fan, and he was intrigued enough to seek out Reichs, to convince her of the character’s potential as a TV crime-solver.
As the show begins its seventh season tonight, clearly that potential has been realized. And though TV’s Temperance Brennan is markedly different in some respects from the Temperance Brennan in print, Reichs told us she’s very pleased with the way her character has been brought to life on “Bones.” (Click on the audio player to hear Kathy Reichs.)

“Bones” returns tomorrow night for its seventh season on Fox.
And just in case you’ve been hiding out in a cave (or buried alive by The Gravedigger) these last few months — spoilers! — Dr. Temperance Brennan is pregnant with Agent Seeley Booth’s child.
Since their relationship has finally been consummated, some of our Fox friends made a video tribute to their years-long “courtship,” set to the tune of Michelle Branch’s “Loud Music.”
For a couple that took so long to finally get together, you may be surprised by how many times they’ve kissed over the course of the show’s first six seasons. In fact, you’ll see quite a few kisses in this video. How many can you spot? Well, tell you what — watch the video, count the kisses, then send an e-mail with your name and your answer to allaccess@fox.com. In honor of the show’s seventh season, we’ll take the seventh, 77th, and 777th correct entries and hook you up with this cool new “Bones” T-shirt!
Alright, so get those fingers ready to start counting. Now, check out the video, enjoy, and good luck!
(And, of course, don’t forget to watch the season premiere of “Bones,” Thursday night at 9/8c on Fox!)
Emily Deschanel has played Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan for seven seasons on the FOX hit series, Bones. Over the course of the years, her character has had to learn a lot of medical terminology. In fact, there might be instances where Deschanel may be able to use her medical knowledge in real life. Does she try using it?
