After Wednesday night’s “American Idol” performances, Hollie Cavanagh received the fewest number of America’s votes and was eliminated from the competition during tonight’s results show.
Did America get it right? Fox All Access producer Jeff Axelrod was backstage after the show to speak with judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, and Jennifer Lopez, who all agreed with America’s choice tonight.
Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, and Phillip Phillips will all vie for a spot in the “Idol” finale, as they perform next Wednesday night at 8/7c on Fox.
Along with her American Idol judging duties, Jennifer Lopez stars in the film What to Expect When You’re Expecting, a chick flick co-starring Elizabeth Banks and Cameron Diaz. The entertainer is also moving up the music charts with her catchy song Dance Again. We spoke to Jennifer Lopez backstage at American Idol, and she talked about her song.
Check out Jennifer Lopez’s video for Dance Again below and What to Expect When You’re Expecting opens in theaters May 18.
“American Idol” viewers cast their votes following Wednesday night’s performances, and it was revealed tonight that this week, it was Elise Testone’s turn to leave the competition and go home.
How did the “Idol” judges feel about that? There was definitely some surprise, as Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler all had great things to say about Testone’s talent backstage after the show.
The remaining five “American Idol” finalists will perform next Wednesday night at 8/7c on Fox.
Time ran out for Colton Dixon on “American Idol” tonight. The 20-year-old’s performances of “Bad Romance” and “September” weren’t well-received by the judges or mentor Jimmy Iovine on Wednesday night, and the viewers agreed, sending him back home to Tennessee.
Should Dixon, whose performances up until last night generally got a lot of praise, have been punished for his one bad night?
Fox All Access producer Jeff Axelrod went backstage at “Idol” and caught up with judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler after the show to talk with them about Dixon’s elimination, and to find out if they think the audience is doing a good job of judging the contestants on their talent.
Next week, the Top 6 contestants — Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, Phillips Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, and Elise Testone — get to sing the songs of Queen, with the band’s Brian May and Roger Taylor on hand as special guests.
The two-hour performance show airs Wednesday night at 8/7c, with the results being announced Thursday night at 8/7c on Fox.
To make it into the Top 9, the “American Idol” finalists had to master songs from the “Piano Man.” But was Billy Joel’s soft rock too hard for the “Idol” contestants? We asked two of the judges following Thursday night’s elimination, where Erika Van Pelt was sent home, and got two different answers.
Joel’s former labelmate, Steven Tyler, told us he thought the songs are very difficult to perform. (Click on the audio player to hear Steven Tyler)

It was a night of high emotions and even higher stakes last night at “American Idol.” Because of the disqualification of Jermaine Jones, the field was being cut from 11 to the Top 10, which means one contestant would go home, while the rest will all go on tour when “Idol’s” finished. Based on America’s votes, Shannon Magrane was the one who didn’t make the cut, and the judges chose not to use their save tonight.
FOX All Access was backstage after the show and spoke to Jennifer Lopez, who talked about the Top 10 finalists, having to say goodbye to Magrane, and what it will take to win the “Idol” crown this year.
Although “American Idol” is based in Hollywood, the Top 10 contestants will be in a “New York State of Mind” next week, as they tackle the Grammy-winning catalog of the “Piano Man,” Billy Joel. Who will be able to handle the “Pressure,” and who will be “Movin’ Out”? Only the good move on, so watch the performances next Wednesday at 8/7 central, and then find out who advances on the “American Idol” results show, Thursday night on FOX.
Last night on American Idol was an emotional farewell for contestant Jeremy Rosado, who was eliminated from the competition. Idol Judge Jennifer Lopez was a big fan of Rosado, but despite being an advocate of his, she told us last night backstage after the show that she and the other judges made the right decision to eliminate him. On Wednesday night, the female contestants performed songs from the great late Whitney Houston, and the boys performed songs from the great Stevie Wonder. Lopez thought overall that the contestants did a great job singing the songs of those legendary singers.
