JOEL COURTNEY’S ‘SUPER’ SECRET SHOCKED ALL HIS FRIENDS

Joel Courtney stars in the box office hit Super 8. As many know, his role in the film was Courtney’s first job.  It’s not too shabby getting to work on your first acting job with J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg, two of the best people in the movie business.  When Courtney landed the gig, it entailed him having to leave his home in Idaho. Due to the secrecy of the film Courtney wasn’t able to tell his friends about the film.  When he told his friends he was going to make a film with Abrams and Spielberg, some of his friends didn’t believe him.  However, when the Super 8 trailer ran during the last Super Bowl, it finally hit them that their friend was in the film.

‘SUPER 8′ SNEAK PEEK: DOES IT LIVE UP TO ITS TITLE?

Producer Steven Spielberg and Director J.J. Abrams will be bringing us what could be one of the biggest hits of the summer, “Super 8.” The movie is about six young children who are filming a movie about zombies with a Super 8 camera. While filming their movie, they witness a train accident, and from that accident, something that isn’t human emerges.

The film looks like somewhat of a mix between Spielberg’s E.T. and 1977 film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which are considered two of the best science fiction films of all time.  Add to the mix a great director like J.J. Abrams, and a magical movie will surely be made.

Check out the trailer and let us know if you agree with us.

Super 8 opens in theatres June 10th.

BATTLE: LOS ANGELES DESTROYS THE WEEKEND BOX OFFICE COMPETITION

As everyone expected, Battle:Los Angeles dominated at the box office this weekend taking in $36.0 million. The film received mostly positive reviews, and the special effects were amazing. There was no doubt Battle: Los Angeles would take the top spot, it was just a matter of much it would earn.

The family animated movie, Rango, which claimed last weeks top spot, fell to second place grossing $23.1 million. This is not bad considering three other movies, Red Riding Hood, Battle: Los Angeles, and Mars Needs Moms, all opened this weekend.

Red Riding Hood finished in third place pulling in a very disappointing $14.1 million. The film received mostly negative reviews, despite having a likeable cast led by Amanda Seyfried.

Rounding out the top five at the box office were the romantic thriller, The Adjustment Bureau, starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, which came in forth place earning $11.5 million, and the disappointment of the weekend was the Walt Disney animated family film, Mars Needs Moms, making only $6.8 million in the fifth place spot.

RANGO RANGLES IN THE #1 SPOT AT THE BOX OFFICE

It was a busy weekend at the box office. The family animated movie, Rango, which starred the voice of Johnny Depp, was #1 at the box office taking in $38.0 million. The film has received great reviews for both the story and visuals. This movie also reunited Depp with director Gore Verbinski, who directed Depp in the previous three Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

The Adjustment Bureau, the Matt Damon romantic thriller, came in at #2 grossing $20.9 million. Like Rango, the film received mostly positive reviews. This could be a very positive sign that things are turning around for Universal Pictures, who released this film. Universal has had many box office bombs the past few years.

The teen movie, Beastly, which is based on the Beauty and the Beast, starring Vanessa Hudgens, Alex Pettyfer, and Neil Patrick Harris, came in at #3 earning $10.1 million. Some in Hollywood were expecting the film to perform much better than it did. However, this film will be very successful once it is released on home video and airs on paid television.

Rounding out the top five were last weeks top two movies at box office. Hall Pass took the #4 spot making $9.0 million, and Gnomeo and Juliet came in at #5 earning $6.9 million.

SANDLER ‘JUST GOES WITH IT’ AND BEATS BIEBER FEVER AT THE BOX OFFICE

It was a tight race to the top of the box office this weekend between Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston’s romantic comedy, Just Go With It, and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. By a small margin, the winner was Just Go With It, taking in $31,000,000, barely beating Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.  This continues the trend of Sandler’s movies opening in the number one spot at the box office.

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never came in at an extremely close second place, grossing $30,260,000, making this the most competitive weekend box office competition we have seen in quite some time.

The Walt Disney family animated movie, Gnomeo and Juliet, featuring the music of Sir Elton John, came in third place grossing $25,500,000. The film received positive reviews, and should stay in the top five at the box office for at least the next few weeks.

Rounding out the top five movies was the adventure movie, The Eagle, earning $8,589,000 in fourth place, and last weeks number one movie, The Roommate, earned $8,400,000 in the number five spot.

So, was Bieber’s appearance during the Rango interviews a set up by the studio, or a coincidence? After all, Bieber’s movie, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, and Rango are both Paramount Pictures films. Regardless, Rango is a cute movie for the whole family to enjoy.  Check it out when it opens in theatres on March 4th.
