‘E.T.’: 30 YEARS LATER

The movie industry has changed a lot over the years. These days, even the biggest movies will have a few good weeks, then fade away as the next big thing hits theaters. In fact, it’s been over a decade since any movie spent 10 consecutive weeks in the Top 5 at the box office. One film that stands out from the rest is the 1982 film, “E.T.” The accomplishments of E.T. were spectacular – it spent 27 weeks in a row in the Top 5, 16 of those at Number 1. And even though it was released at a time when movie tickets cost less than 3 bucks a piece, it’s still number one on the all-time list of top-grossing movies. We could quote its accomplishments all day, but perhaps the biggest is that it’s Steven Spielberg’s favorite film. (Click on the audio player to hear Steven Spielberg)

KATHARINE MCPHEE’S ‘SMASH’ DATES BACK TO ‘IDOL’ DAYS

We first got to know Katharine McPhee back in 2006, when she went all the way to the “American Idol” finale. And even though she lost to Taylor Hicks she’s managed to come away with the more enduring career. This week, her brand-new TV show premieres… it’s called “Smash,” and its executive producer is none other than Steven Spielberg. And, as it turns out, Katharine told me the seeds of the show were first planted during her time on “Idol”.

Smash premiers tonight on NBC.

SPIELBERG WON’T GO CHASING INSPIRATION

Academy Award-winner Steven Spielberg is one of the most acclaimed and beloved directors in movie history. Having helmed such films as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan, and E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Spielberg has successfully conquered many genres and shown the kind of versatility most directors can only dream of.

His latest films, War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin, which are in theatres now, have received rave reviews from critics and audiences. Having made some of the best films the big screen has ever seen, Spielberg explains that he still gets inspired to make films today; however, he doesn’t look for inspiration, he lets it find him.

STEVEN SPIELBERG CONFIRMS INDIANA JONES 5 SCRIPT IN THE WORKS

For over three decades, the Indiana Jones film franchise has captivated movie audiences all over the world. There have been four Indiana Jones movies, the last of which was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008.  While that film garnered some unfair criticism from fans and critics, Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg, who directed all four films, has confirmed that Indy 5 is in the works.

While promoting his latest film, The Adventures of Tintin, which opens in North America on December 21st, Spielberg sat down with Empire Online.com and confirmed that writer/creator George Lucas is working on the next Indiana Jones film.  Specifically, Spielberg stated, “He is working on Indy V. We haven’t gone to screenplay yet, but he’s working on the story. I’ll leave it to George to come up with a good story.”

There were many who disliked Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull so much that they hoped it was the last Indiana Jones film to be made. We are happy to hear that Indy 5 is in the works, are you? Let us know if you think there should be another installment of Indiana Jones.

THE HELP’S POWERFUL PRODUCERS ‘HELPED’ MAINTAIN THE FILMS INTERROGATORY

The Help was the number one movie at the box office again this weekend for the second week in a row. Not only is the film appealing to movie goers, it is also adored by critics.  Many movies like The Help just aren’t being made today, because they are rarely box office hits.

We spoke to director, Tate Taylor (who wrote the screenplay and directed the film) and Kathryn Stockett (who wrote the beloved novel which the film was based on), and they told us that if it weren’t for filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus who produced the film, the movie wouldn’t have stayed true to the book the way that it did.
