CHRIS HEMSWORTH FOUND VALIDATION ON ‘AVENGERS’

Making a first impression is always important, but Chris Hemsworth had to meet a collection of A-list stars for his latest film, The Avengers. Even though he scored last summer as the lead in Thor, Hemsworth understands that working with the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johannson, and Mark Ruffalo can be an intimidating experience.

“I mean because I’m standing there with Robert Downey and Samuel Jackson and Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson and you know… it’s just a lot of people that I’ve watched for years and admired and you know, Academy Award nominees and winners and things and you know, and the people have had far more experience in the business than I have and… You know, it’s funny because there’s a mixture of intimidation, but also kind of… you finally fit in for some reason because I walked on with a cape and long blonde hair and this ridiculous outfit, but then I noticed that everyone else had on one too, so it was okay for the first time. I didn’t feel so silly.”

The Avengers was #1 last weekend at the box office.

SAMUEL L. JACKSON LOOKS BACK ON EARLY ACTING DAYS

Before he was a Quentin Tarantino staple, a jedi, or even Nick Fury, Samuel L. Jackson was a struggling actor. Although he’s had a remarkable career that spans three decades, Jackson refuses to forget his modest beginnings. All thespians must start somewhere, and even to this day Mr. Jackson marvels that his per diem is larger than his earliest paychecks. It’s been an amazing ride for Jackson, and he’s never forgotten the friends and colleagues who have helped him along the way. (Click on the audio player to hear Samuel L. Jackson)

JOSS WHEDON: ‘I WANTED MARK RUFFALO AS MY HULK’

Director Joss Whedon has exceeded expectations with the monumental success of The Avengers, and one of his best decisions was to pick Mark Ruffalo to play tortured scientist Bruce Banner (aka the Hulk). Although the two Hulk movies featured Eric Bana and Ed Norton in the lead roles, Marvel wanted to go a different direction with The Avengers, and Whedon claims Ruffalo was always his first choice. ROBERT DOWNEY JR. WANTS TO BE A FAN-FRIENDLY ACTOR

Robert Downey Jr. plays Iron Man (and Tony Stark) for the third time as part of the superhero collective in The Avengers. It’s a role that has transformed Downey Jr.’s career and enabled him to develop the Sherlock Holmes franchise in the process. With his monumental success, the actor understands Iron Man would still have remained grounded if it wasn’t for the fans. (Click on the audio player to hear Robert Downey Jr.)

Downey Jr. isn’t the type of movie star who finishes his project and stays stuck at his respected mansion until another job beckons. He tells us he’s a true movie buff who digs the theater going experience. (Click on the audio player to hear Robert Downey Jr.)

SCARLETT JOHANSSON LOVES HER ROLE AS A (MOVIE) WIDOW

Scarlett Johansson reprises her role of the mysterious and vengeful Black Widow in The Avengers. Johansson received good notices playing the sexy and deadly crime fighter in Iron Man 2, and since the Black Widow works closely with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), she was an obvious choice to return with The Avengers. It’s a role Johansson loves, especially since female superheroes (unless you count Elektra and Catwoman!) are surprisingly rather scarce!

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. IMPRESSED BY AVENGERS DIRECTOR JOSS WHEDON

Director Joss Whedon had one of the hardest tasks directing The Avengers. To incorporate iconic Marvel comic characters such as Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man in one film isn’t an easy task. However, Whedon pulls it off brilliantly making a very good action flick that will satisfy the audience.

Robert Downey Jr., who reprised his role of Iron Man for the film, was impressed by the job that was done by Whedon. (Click on the audio player to hear Robert Downey Jr.)

JOSS WHEDON’S ‘AVENGERS’ AIM: MAKE IT NEW, FRESH

The Avengers, Marvel’s most hyped film since director Sam Raimi’s first installment of the Spider-Man franchise, finally hits theaters May 4th.   With such iconic characters as Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and even Nick Fury, The Avengers was a balancing act for Joss Whedon.  As evinced with his work on Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Whedon has proven that he is more than capable at navigating ensemble driven stories.  A lifelong comic book fan, Whedon understands that working with each Avenger, whether it’s Iron Man or the Hulk, can be an entirely different creative adventure.

We’re less than a month away from the opening of “The Avengers” it’s got an all-star cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L. Jackson, who told me that playing in a hero in a “comic book” movie makes him feel like a kid again. (Click on the audio player to hear Samuel. L Jackson)

JEREMY RENNER’S CAREER IS ON CRUISE CONTROL!

There’s an old cliché about “striking while the iron’s hot,” and it’s never been hotter for Jeremy Renner.  After getting nominated for an Oscar 2 years in a row, he’s been in high demand, and he’s taken full advantage of it.  He’s got 3 finished movies in the pipeline “The Avengers,” “The Bourne Legacy,” and “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.”  It was a lot of work in a little time, and Jeremy gives a lot of credit to his “Mission Impossible” co-star, Tom Cruise, for helping him get ready for the onslaught.
